Between November 28 and December 3, 2024, a lake-effect band put two to five feet across the Northeast Ohio snow belt in five days, at rates of one to three inches an hour. North Madison finished at 45.0 inches. That is the kind of week same-day work exists for — and the kind of week when everybody calls at once.
Worth being straight about: during a large storm, an operator’s season customers are cleared first, because they are the route. A same-day request from outside that route goes behind it. That is not a policy anyone is embarrassed about — it is what the season contract buys.
So a same-day call is realistic when the storm is moderate, when the property is near an existing route, or when the need is genuinely urgent — a medical appointment, a blocked egress, a commercial obligation. During a five-foot lake-effect week it is much harder, and an honest operator will say so rather than take the booking.

Say where — in this metro the community sets the zone, and the zone tells an operator whether they already have a truck nearby. Say what — a driveway, a berm only, a walk to a door, a roof. And say how urgent, honestly — the difference between “today” and “this hour” changes who can take it.
One realistic expectation to hold onto: in Cleveland the city itself takes three to four days to plow all 3,000 lane miles. Your driveway will very often be clear long before the street it opens onto is.
